“Why don’t we wear our matching outfits?” my ten year old asked. Tough she’s officially a tween and becoming her own person with each passing day, Quinn still enjoys being my mini me. This truly made my day! I love how my daughter adds so much color to my life. 🥰
“She looks. Just like Princess Ariel,” a girl wearing her Little Mermaid floaty came up to me me. To my amazement, she was talking about my daughter Quinn. In that moment, it occurred to me that she did favor the Little Mermaid” played by Halle Bailey quite a bit.
Unfortunately, even in 2023, there are some people who believe that the Little Mermaid shouldn’t have been played by an African American. So when this little girl, who was Caucasian, was absolutely in awe of Quinn and wanted to follow her around the pool and just be her friend, I thought it was the absolute best!
Their interaction together makes me feel like despite some prejudice and close-minded views, we are headed in the right direction.
We arrived about a half hour early for our Father’s Day reservation, and I anticipated having to wait a little while to be seated. But that wasn’t the case at all. A gentleman ahead of of didn’t even have reservations and was given the option of indoor or outdoor seating because there was plenty of seating available. This is the complete opposite of Mother’s Day where reservations must be done at least two months in advance, and if you arrive without one, the host just might laugh you out of the restaurant.
This instance reminds me of how much of a rare gem my husband is to me and our daughter. Though he’s not much of a picture taker and isn’t on social media, I’m grateful for his presence and happy that I’m not taking these “baby steps” as a parent alone, as many mothers sadly do.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the fathers, fathers-to-be, like a father, uncles, pop-pops, etc. This is your special day!
Just a couple of days ago, my daughter asked me if I was sad that she would be double digits, and without giving it a second thought, I said, “no.” But I will miss those moments from when she was younger as she continues to mature into a young woman. The moments are fleeting, so I’m grateful for them all.
Finally, I was able to reveal the spring break surprise that I’ve been holding onto for month! 😅 We’re taking Quinn and her bestie to their first Sixers game! 🏀⛹🏽♂️ They’re both excited and ready wearing their specially made shirts from the talented Bridgette Durham( photo credit too 😉)Thanks so much! 🥰 Excited for tons of game pics and videos and a victory against the Miami Heat! 🤞🏽🤗
Though it was a little breezy today, it was a perfect way to start off my fourth grader’s spring break. As an only child, I’m so glad her bestie was able to come too.
When I asked if they had a good time, Quinn’s best friend responded, “Yes! We haven’t stopped smiling since we got to the zoo!” Now hearing that really made my day! 🤗
Though it was sunny, the low this morning was 27 degrees Fahrenheit which felt nothing like the first day of spring! Eventually it got a bit warmer, which meant the line at Rita’s for a free water ice would seem never ending, and it was!
There was still a chill in the air with at least 40 to 50 people ahead of us. If it weren’t for my daughter being so excited, I probably would have left. So after a little over a half hour of waiting, we earned our first day of spring rewards. Quinn got Swedish Fish, and I got lemon as a surprise for my husband.
Happy first day of spring! Now if only we can have some consistent spring weather.
I’m so happy I spent part of the first day of the new year playing games with my daughter. We’ve played Clue in the past, but this was our first time playing “The Golden Girls” version, and we both thought it was fun.
I was so impressed that Quinn knew who the characters were and developed a strategy to figure out who “stole the slice of cheesecake.”
Even though I did win, discovering that it was Rose with a feather slipper in the bathroom, Quinn was a good sport and quickly learned about keeping a “poker face.”
We may not have a total “clue” on what 2023 will bring, but if it’s anything like today, it will be fun-filled and memorable.
It’s a merry Christmas for my family and me. Quinn is very happy with her gifts and gave out big hugs and was equally excited to give gifts that she purchased with her own money. 🥰
As 2022 draws to a close, I am truly grateful for the gift of life and the presence of loved ones.
What makes for a merry Christmas Eve when it’s 7 degrees and just 16 as the high for the day? 🥶🎄 Having a pajama day, binge watching our favorite Christmas movies and having a few treats. Simply being present with me family is a wonderful gift I’ll never take for granted. 🥰🎁
