My Birthdays Are So Special With My Little Girl!

On October 11th, I reached my own milestone and turned a year older. While the level of excitement is not the same as it once was when I was younger, my daughter’s enthusiasm and secretive planning for my big day truly made me feel special. Her planning actually started in the summer. I would overhear her whispering to my husband (her dad) about what she’d like to do and what she gift she would like to get me.

So when the day finally arrived, she could not contain herself. I have to leave early in the morning to get to work and did not see her until the afternoon, so as soon as she arrived home from school, she screamed out, “Happy birthday, Mommy!” and gave me a big, long hug. “We have special plans for you,” she informed me. My five year old selected Outback Steakhouse as the restaurant. “I know you love their salmon and baked sweet potato, Mommy,” she said. I thought to myself, wow, she knows me so well. Usually, she sits next to her dad, but she said that she wanted to sit next to me since it was my birthday.

At the restaurant, she presented her card and gift to me. The card’s wording was perfect and selected by Quinn. The gift was a beautiful key locket necklace. My husband later told me that she picked it out herself and insisted on getting me a pretty necklace since she knows I like wearing them. She even gave input on the cake and wanted blue to be used since it is my favorite color.

Knowing that my daughter is so caring and was excited to make me happy for my birthday warms my heart and is truly the best gift I could ever ask for.

Celebrating Four Fantastic Years: Happy Birthday to My Sweet Girl!

Four: a nice and even number. There’s four seasons, four elements, and today makes four years since the birth of my sweet little girl. What a fantastic four years it’s been watching her grow and become her very own person! She loves learning, is so inquisitive and is already in tune with her emotional intelligence and is often the consoler when she sees that someone is upset.

At age one, I was in awe with her ability to walk, at age two, I was eager to listen to her talk, at age three, I enjoyed observing her continue to discover the world and further develop her cognitive skills, and now at age four I look forward to and encourage her questions and interests, even when they seem endless, because I am grateful to have her in my life and love seeing the world through her eyes.

While it may be Quinn’s “happy birthday,” it is my happy day as well. She’s added so much meaning to not just my life but my husband’s life, our extended family and friends too. I hope she grows up knowing how much of a gift she has been to us all and that she feels loved not just on her special day but everyday.

How My Toddler Made My Birthday Even Happier!

Happy Birthday to Mommy

Since I can remember, I’ve always looked forward to celebrating my birthday. Being with family and friends, having cake and ice cream, singing happy birthday, blowing out candles to make a wish and of course the occasional gift or two always put a smile on my face. As I’ve matured,  however, the anticipation of celebrating my birthday along with some of my favorite rituals have faded over time. Maybe it’s because as we get older people don’t make a big of a deal about birthdays as they did when we are younger. While I appreciate each year I’ve been blessed to see, 2015-10-11 18.15.29I do miss that feeling of butterflies I used to get the day before my birthday and then the day of wondering what my family and friends had planned for my special day. Each year, my husband makes me feel special, which I greatly appreciate, but this year, for the first time, my two year old daughter made my birthday even happier by bringing out my inner child. She was so excited that it was my birthday and insisted on singing happy birthday to me throughout the course of the day with a big smile on her face. Then she insisted that I wear a party hat she supplied because what’s a birthday without a birthday hat? “Oh, boy mommy! Look at your birthday cake!” Quinn clapped and giggled. “It’s time to sing happy birthday to mommy!” The joy she had on my special day truly filled me up with happiness. Celebrating my birthday with my little girl (and my husband and mother too) reminds me of how much I love my life and family and how grateful I am to live another year. Thanks for making my birthday even happier my sweet little girl.
